Should I Stay, or Should I Go?

I’m not a porn blog and I don’t follow any porn blogs. (Well, I follow a couple porn blogs. I’m only human.) Still, I don’t like censorship, especially when it’s as absurdly broad as this.

I’m also very concerned about the second and third order effects. Once the porn goes I suspect many others, like the more explicit fandoms will leave and then the less explicit fandoms will follow and so on and so forth until only the least interesting blogs remain. In other words, I think that a lot of blogs that won’t be directly affected will still leave and every blog that leaves, whether they themselves are explicitly adult or not, is just added incentive for others to leave. That’s the “network” part of a social network. And whatever the policy says today, I fear that blogs run by women or featuring LGBT material will be censored more because that’s what always happens.

I don’t need Tumblr to be exposed to a bunch entertainment conglomerate advertising masquerading as content. I can get that anywhere. I use Tumblr to see what else is out there. If the voices outside the mainstream and the niche interests aren’t here anymore, then what’s the point?

I’ll probably be here on the 18th, if nothing else just to assess the damage. Beyond that, who knows. It’s probably just a matter of finding a new home.
